The latest CD by the Maîtrise de Toulouse, directed by Mark Opstad, was one of the ’essential new releases’ in the Sunday Times. It has received 5 diapasons from Diapason Magazine who described the choir as the « revelation of the last few years in the world of maîtrises » and 4 stars in the BBC Music Magazine who described it as « an utter pleasure ». It was aso the featured CD on the programme ’Sacrées Musiques’ on France Musique.

The CD’s programme is entirely dedicated to French Christmas music, divided into three parts : Early Motets (Mouton, Bouzignac, Moulinié, Clérambault and Charpentier), Modern Motets (Poulenc, Roger Ducasse, Bleuse) and Noëls (new choral arrangements by Mark Opstad.

Polyphonies oubliées

Polyphonies oubliées

The new double CD of French fauxbourdon ’Forgotten Polyphonies’ on the Aparté label, recorded by the Ensemble Gilles Binchois, with the choristers of the Maîtrise de Toulouse, (dir.Mark Opstad), directed by Dominique Vellard is now on sale.

It has received a Diapason Découverte and four stars in Classica Magazine in France, and in Germany the critic’s prize: ’Preis der Deutschen Schallplattenkritik’ in the early music category.

The new Maîtrise de Toulouse CD is out now, on the Regent records label. It has received glowing reviews in the international music press. (see ’Press’) A journey from the Renaissance to the present day through the little known repertoire of motets for upper voices by Bouzignac, Boesset, Danielis, Campra, Fauré, Büsser, Poulenc, Duruflé, Villette and two commissions by Patrice Libes and Marc Bleuse.

Missa Brevis

The Maîtrise de Toulouse CD « Missa Brevis », directed by Mark Opstad, has received unanimous praise in the musical press in France, England and the United States, including Diapason Magazine (five stars), Gramophone Magazine, Classic FM magazine (four stars), Choir and Organ Magazine (four stars) and Organ magazine (five stars). The American Record Guide chose the CD as one of its critic’s choice for 2012, and stated that “there’s probably nothing this choir could not sing, and spectacularly well”  Mark was invited to the programme The Choir on BBC Radio 3 to speak about the choir and its CD, and extracts were heard on France Musique.
